There is only one way to put it: access to water and sanitation is one of the globe’s most urgent development issues, perhaps the most fundamental. For millions of people around the world, it is a matter of survival.
CEND has extensive expertise in developing and managing water and sanitation programs for nonprofits. We have a robust understanding of water supply and water resource management issues in local communities, as well as sanitation and hygiene promotion approaches. Our Areas of Expertise
Water
CEND provides support to NGOs to develop appropriate strategies for effective drinking water supply services. Our experience includes assisting NGOs to build water infrastructure such as toilets and community water pumps, wells, pipelines, water storage and water treatment facilities. CEND also has extensive experience assisting NGOs to build capacities of institutions and community structures and to advocate for effective policies and strategies to ensure that people have access to safe drinking water.
Hygiene
CEND provides consultancy services to promote good hygiene practices. We partner with nonprofits to enhance the effectiveness of their hygiene programs. We support nonprofits to implement approaches like school-led low-cost handwashing with soap initiatives and low-cost menstrual hygiene management facilities in local communities. In addition, through communication for development, CEND works with nonprofits to abolish the stigma and myths surrounding menstruation so that schoolgirls do not lose out on school during their period.
Sanitation
We offer a range of consultancy engagements designed to assess systems, identify gaps, and develop tailored solutions that helps nonprofits bring sanitation solutions to scale. Specifically, we help nonprofit organizations with programs and initiatives that promote the construction of communal, household and schools’ toilets. We also support nonprofits with behavior change initiatives. This is aimed at putting an end to open defecation.
