Of all the challenges facing a nonprofit, managing the board can certainly be one of the most daunting. This thought-provoking course addresses issues common to nonprofit boards and crucial to a nonprofit’s success. This course is 1 of 8 required to earn the Certificate of Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.
Under this course, CEND builds the capacity of nonprofit leaders to perform their duties and responsibilities including compliance to the laws and regulations that govern cooperatives. Nonprofit leaders are able to use a governance checklist to track progress and improve their performance in terms of membership and benefits which in turn enables them adequately build a more sustainable and transparent cooperative.

Module 2: Key board roles
Gain an understanding of the key board roles for a Non for Profit (NFP) organization.
Module 3: Purpose and strategy
Explore the responsibility of the board in determining a NFP’s organization purpose, as well as the development and oversight of a future-focused strategy.
Module 4: Board and organizational culture
Understand the relationship between culture and the impact this has on a NFP board and organizational performance.
Module 5: Boards and executives working together
Understand the importance of holding management to account to ensure the NFP’s purpose is fulfilled.
Module 6: Effective compliance
Gain an understanding of financial obligations and compliance and duties.
