Effective Leadership, Successful Fundraising
This course will teach you how to lead with confidence!You have developed significant fundraising skills, and now you have been promoted to lead the fundraising team. Especially for the new leader or the fundraising executive aspiring for a leadership position, in this course, you will learn how to develop and cast vision for your fundraising operation, recruit and retain talent, continually innovate, lead through consensus, address setbacks, and hold colleagues accountable for results.
Explore how to develop a compelling vision, lead change, and coach implementation. Lead your team effectively and lead up to your supervisor and board of directors persuasively.

You have developed significant fundraising skills, and now you have been promoted to lead the fundraising team. Especially for the new leader or the fundraising executive aspiring for a leadership position, in this course, you will learn how to develop and cast vision for your fundraising operation, recruit and retain talent, continually innovate, lead through consensus, address setbacks, and hold colleagues accountable for results.
After completion of this course, the participant will:
- Internalize the personal traits necessary for effective leadership – especially how power, authority, and humility need to be understood and applied;
- Recognize how the traits of a successful fundraiser translate into the qualities of an effective leader and how the application of leadership is distinct from management;
- Understand how to recruit the right people to the team and then guide, correct, and encourage their collective efforts as an in-group, transformational leader;
- Learn how to become an innovative leader who crafts and communicates a compelling vision, listens, and responds to disagreement and resistance, and oversees responsive initiatives in the philanthropic sector; and
- Identify and address ethical challenges associated with effective leadership.
Schedule:
The course is offered in the following two formats:
(1) In-person
The in-person class is three days in length.
Day 1: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
Day 2: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
Day 3: 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
(2) Virtual (Live) Schedule
The live, virtual class is held over six sessions from 2pm to 5pm Eastern and hosted using the Zoom platform.
